AREA FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Savoy stomps Saint Jo
Savoy erupted for 35 third-quarter points as spread back Alex Caldwell took over for the Cardinals in a 57-29 victory over homestanding Saint Jo at Harley Sewell Field.
“We didn’t rise up to the challenge,” Saint Jo head coach Chad Tallon said, “and we struggled.”
Saint Jo (4-3) will play its 9-1A-I opener Friday at Tioga.
The Panthers established a 15-6 lead at the end of one quarter, and they clung to a 15-14 edge at intermission.
Garrett Parker closed the margin to 22-21 in favor of Savoy after a 15-yard touchdown run.
But, then Caldwell proved to be too much for Saint Jo to handle.
“The kid is fast,” Tallon said. “We just didn’t get a hat on him.”
Wyatt West finished with a pair of TD receptions on passes from Garrett Parker.
West himself threw a one-point conversion pass to Blake Pledger on an untimed down in the first quarter. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News, including how Nocona fared as well as complete updated district standings.
