Pair stopped in stolen truck, investigation leads to search warrant at home
A traffic stop by Bowie Police this week led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of two people; however, further investigation also has uncovered possible stolen property.
On Monday, Patrol Officer Melina Limon observed a vehicle that appeared to have been spray painted and did not display a registration sticker on the windshield. The license plates also were expired.
The truck was found to be stolen out of Cooke County, and further investigation led to a search warrant at a local home where numerous items of possibly stolen property were seized. Arrested at the traffic stop were David Smith II and Jessica Gibbons, both of Bowie, on charges related to the stolen vehicle, but additional charges are being investigated according to police. On Friday city officials reported the intersection at Rock and Pillar was closed due to a sinkhole in the street. This area has been experiencing major drainage problems for many years damaging culverts and the street asphalt and concrete, with a portion of the street collapsing earlier in the spring. Drivers should avoid this area.
The Nocona City Council approved a trio of Nocona Economic Development Corporation requests and considered infrastructure work questioned by a city council.
Councilors met on June 10. Two of the NEDC requests had already been presented with the timeclock for comment started. With that time limit over, the requests were finalized.
The Type A and B Boards will spend $19,225 at the Indian Oaks Golf Club for equipment, aerifying and top dressing the greens and batteries for rental carts. It also will expend $20,000 to the Nocona Chisholm Trail Rodeo Arena Committee to build new concrete bleachers, railings, fence and platform.
The third NEDC request is a new one related to a Type B board loan of $200,000 to Amy and Chris Nunneley for a new apartment and office construction project.
