CROSS COUNTRY: UIL state meets are today
Bowie’s Kamryn Cantwell and Nocona’s Miriam Diaz will represent Montague County at the University Interscholastic League Cross Country State Meet today at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Both Diaz and Cantwell will run in the Conference 3A girls’ race at 9:50 a.m.
The Conference 2A girls will run first at 9 a.m. followed by the 2A boys at 9:20 a.m.
The Conference 3A boys will run at 10:10 a.m.
Then Conference 4A girls run next at 10:40 a.m., followed by the 4A boys at 11 a.m.
Conference 5A girls will run at 11:30 a.m., followed by 5A boys at noon.
The Conference 6A girls will race at 12:30 p.m., followed by 6A boys at 1 p.m.
The meet wraps up with Conference 1A girls at 1:30 p.m. and 1A boys at 1:50 p.m.
All boys and Conference 5A and 6A girls races will cover 5,000 meters, the rest of the girls races have a distance of two miles.
Complete results will be available at the Bowie News website on Saturday evening.
The admission is $5 per person. Parking is $5 per car, and is available at Dell Diamond.
The meet will be on television live on the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Network.

The race will also be available on the NFHS mobile application.

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
