Bowie girl powerlifters win final league meet

The Bowie girls powerlifting team competed in its final league meet on Feb. 14 in Boyd to get ready for the all important regional meet.
While the competition was not fierce, it was still an opportunity for the lifters to gain a little more experience and see if they could lift much more than their last meet from five days before.
As far as teams go, they squashed the competition from five different schools all in their region. Seven girls earned first place medals and 10 girls all together earned points for the team.
Gold medals were awarded to: Jessie Henry in the 97 pound division; Sierra Skinner in the 105 pound division; Emma Skinner in the 114 pound division; Ashley Aguirre in the 123 pound division; Kerstin Kindsfather in the 148 pound division; Carrington Davis in the 198 pound division and Harley Lowe in the 220 pound division.
Silver medals were won by Meridythe Metzler and Jenna Rogers while Breanna Masingale won points with a fourth place finish.
Heading into the regional meet, five girls are ranked at least in the top two in their weight class in the region, meaning if they perform up to their best standard they could punch a ticket to state.
Those girls are Sierra and Emma Skinner, Henry, Price and Davis, who is first in two different weight classes. Obviously the pressure of the moment will be weighing on every girls mind that day and any lifter has their days where they just don’t have it.
The girl’s regional meet will be in Chico on March. 3.
