Indians compete at Tioga

Published

on

Nocona’s first tournament at Tioga last weekend was cut short due to weather as the Indians’ baseball team got some more games under their belt.
Nocona went 1-1 in the two games they showed promising things in both.
The Indians opened the tournament against Petrolia on Thursday. Nocona was able to get two base runners on with two outs by a hit batter and a drawn walk, but could not capitalize.
The Pirates were able to turn four hits and two drawn walks into to two runs, but the Indians were able to minimize the damage.
Neither team scored in the second inning, but Petrolia strung three hits and a walk to score three runs in the third inning to go up 5-0.
A lead off hit batter Nocona was able to capitalize as a double from Blayne Gomez scored the Indians first run. Next batter Anthony Veitenheimer was able to drive him in with a single to cut the lead to 5-2.
Unfortunately, that was all Nocona was able to muster as they failed to score in the fifth inning and the game was called after that as the Indians lost the game.
Nocona played their next game on Friday against the tournament host Tioga. The Indians hung five runs on the Bulldogs in the first inning thanks to three hit batters, three hits and one drawn walk.
Tioga was able to answer back with five drawn walks in the inning that scored two runs before Nocona was able to get out of the first inning leading 5-2.
The Indians tacked on four more runs in the second inning thanks to two hits, two hit batters and two drawn walks to go up 9-2.
Despite the Bulldogs loading the bases with three straight walks with two outs, Nocona was able to get out of the jam giving up no runs.
The Indians drew three walks and hit two singles to score another run before the game was called in the third inning as Nocona won 10-2.

Jacksboro defeats Lady Rabbit VB, 3-1

Published

Bowie, playing on a short rest, held with host Jacksboro for most of the volleyball match Oct. 1, but the Tigerettes pulled away late and defeated the Lady Rabbits 3-1 (26-24, 12-25, 25-14, 22-25).

The match was scheduled for Oct. 2 but was moved. Both teams are now 2-2 in District 6-3A.

Jacksboro got out to a quick lead in game one before Olivia Stewart’s kill and a three-point Olivia Richey serving run put the visitors up 8-7. Junior Abby Reneau broke things open with a six-point string to give Bowie a 15-8 cushion and force Jacksboro into a timeout.

The Tigerettes came back and took an 18-16 lead. KP Rutherford’s kill broke the serve and allowed Molly Enlow to tie the game at 18.

Gold-Burg gives it a go, falls to Perrin 35-32

Published

on

Gold-Burg Football Coach Austin Norman called his Bears’ 35-32 loss to host Perrin a “barn burner”.

It most definitely was as Gold-Burg, now 1-5 for the year gave the 5-1 Pirates everything they wanted for four quarters. Gold-Burg scored on the last play of the first half on a Peyton Epperson run with the two point conversion cutting the deficit to 20-16.

The Bears were their own worst enemy to open the third quarter with face mask and offside penalties moving the Pirates downfield setting up a first-and-goal at the Bear three. Defense by Epperson, Keelyn Case and Barrett Allen and a pair of Perrin penalties helped stop the drive and force a turnover on downs.

Gold-Burg was slapped with an intentional grounding penalty on the first play, giving Perrin a safety and extending the Pirate lead to 22-16. Defense by Epperson and JoJuan Grace after a first down run closed out the third quarter.
