New tax assessor to take oath
The Montague County Tax Assessor’s office will open at 8:30 a.m. on April 1 following the swearing in ceremony of Kathy Phillips, new tax assessor.
Phillips was selected by the commissioner’s court last week to fill the remaining term of Syd Nowell, who will be retiring effective April 1. Phillips, who lives in Bowie, has worked as a clerk in the office the past two years. She was recommended for the job by Nowell and the committee appointed by the court to fill the position.
Nowell has served as county tax assessor-collector since September 1999. The elected job will be on the March 2020 party primary with candidates battling it out for a chance to be on the general election ballot and begin a new term in January 2021.
The retiring tax assessor will be celebrated with a retirement party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 29 in the courthouse annex. The public is welcome.
A BOIL WATER NOTICE remains in effect for City of Bowie, TX water customers along Highway 81 from Parker Road to Old Bowie Lake. Affected customers should use bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. Results of water testing should be available shortly after noon today. If the testing is good, the BOIL WATER NOTICE may be lifted shortly thereafter
A boil water order was implemented Monday afternoon for the area served at U.S. Highway 81 from Parker Drive to Old Bowie Lake as water line repairs were made. The order remains in place today. If you are affected by this order and need bottled water call 940-977-4941.
