April deemed Child Abuse Prevention Month

National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families.
A proclamation was approved by the Montague County Commissioner’s Court on Monday naming April as Child Abuse Awareness Month.
During the month of April and throughout the year, communities are encouraged to share child abuse and neglect prevention awareness strategies and activities and promote prevention across the country.
The Montague Child Welfare Board asks you to participate in the prevention of child abuse and neglect in our county.

Third graders share their ‘unique’ ideas for how to cook a turkey

Once more we pose that question to Bowie third graders, who share their very colorful, helpful, unique and always hilarious recipes and procedures to create the best bird for the family dinner.
Enjoy their recipe suggestions as you sit down with family and friends this week for Thanksgiving. Hopefully it will bring a smile. Special thanks to Stephanie Crabtree, Karina Carter and Bailey Bolton for allowing their students to take part in this longtime Bowie News tradition. We tried to use as many as space allowed, thanks to all the kids.

Here are just a few:

Do you like turkey? I’m am going to teach you how to cook it. First,you go get your ingredients by going to buy a turkey from Walmart. Get your pan out and put the non-stick spray on the pan. Put the turkey on top of the pan.
Next, you put your turkey on the grill at 290 degrees for 30 minutes. While the turkey cooks, get your side food together. Next, set up your table. Then you put all of your food on the table. Sit down and enjoy your meal. Wasn’t that yummy?

Bowie, Nocona preparing community Thanksgiving day meals

There is no reason for anyone to spend Thanksgiving alone or go without a holiday meal as organizations in Bowie and Nocona hosts free community meals.
First Methodist Church of Bowie members will host the Bowie community Thanksgiving Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located at 1515 Jefferson.
Church members invite you to come as you are to share a meal in fellowship hall or call for delivery or carry-out.
Delivery orders will be taken until noon on Nov. 27. Call the church office at 940-872-3384. Calling to report pick-up meals is helpful, although not necessary. There is no charge for dinner.
There will be a free hot meal on Thanksgiving Day at First Baptist Church of Nocona from 10-11:30 a.m. The church is at 511 Cooke and the meal of traditional favorites will be served in fellowship hall.
