An attempted traffic stop late last week ended with a two-vehicle pursuit as a second car attempted to interfere with the police officer trying to stop the car.
Detective Bob Blackburn of the criminal investigation division of the Bowie Police Department said the series of events began about 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 on East Nelson when Bowie Patrol Officer Cody Stone observed a blue Lincoln traveling with what appeared to be a non-working headlight. Stone initiated the stop as they crossed the intersection of East Nelson and North Mill.
According to the probable cause affidavit, as the vehicle turned onto Rock Stone saw it suddenly accelerate around a gold passenger car in front of him and then move back in front of that car.
The drivers were looking back and forth at each other said the officer, and it appeared they were connected, so Stone sped up to keep the second vehicle from getting beside him.
Stone pulled past both cars to avoid any potential crossfire situation as he was unsure of their intentions. The two vehicles sped up behind him and tried to pass. Stone pulled his service weapon and continued to keep the suspect vehicles behind him.
