Thanksgiving Day meals readied in Bowie, Nocona

The communities of Bowie and Nocona will be serving up free holiday meals on Thanksgiving Day, and they encourage anyone who may be alone, may not want or have the ability to cook or who would just like to enjoy some fellowship to attend.
In Bowie meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First United Church of Bowie, 1515 North Jefferson. Delivery and take-out will be available. Orders will be taken through noon on Nov. 27 for meals. Call the church office at 872-3384 to place an order or reservation.
In Nocona the community dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veranda Inn Events Center. Those wishing to order a meal may call Belinda Hendrix at 531-1885.
They also invite volunteers to help with serving, deliveries and of course clean-up. Those who may want to help with providing food or supplies also may contact the above numbers.

Flood advisory issued for Montague County

Flood Advisory issued July 6 at 12:32PM CDT until July 6 at 3:30PM CDT by NWS Fort Worth TX
* WHAT…Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.
* WHERE…Portions of Montague and Wise counties in north central
Texas
* WHEN…Until 330 PM CDT.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This
will likely cause urban and small stream flooding. Low lying
and/or poor drainage areas will experience minor flooding in
the advisory area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have fallen.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Decatur, Bridgeport, Bowie, Alvord, Chico, Paradise, Sunset,
Lake Bridgeport, Lake Amon G Carter, Runaway Bay, Park
Springs, Crafton, Fruitland, Balsora, Cottondale, Mallard,
Forestburg and Boonsville.
Instructions
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

21-day waiting period begins

At a called meeting on July 2, the Bowie Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to name Dr. Donna L. Hale as the lone finalist for the position of superintendent.
Board President Jacky Betts said after much deliberation the board was excited to share the news regarding leadership of the district. Dr. Hale currently serves as the assistant superintendent at Perryton ISD and previously led Miami ISD as superintendent. She brings more than 27 years of experience in education to the position.
“Hale has excelled in various roles, including teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. Her extensive experience and dedication to the field make her an exceptional choice for our district,” said Betts
In accordance with Texas law, a 21-day waiting period is required following the announcement of a lone finalist before the official hiring can take place.
“We are thrilled to introduce Hale to Bowie ISD and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our community,” concluded Betts.
