Both basketball programs from Forestburg and Prairie Valley competed in a tournament in Chico Thursday through Saturday.
Of the six games played Saturday, the final day of action, the four teams compiled a combined record of 2-4 with the Horns and Lady Horns taking the victories.
The Longhorns opened the day’s events against Boyd.
Despite keeping the score close, the Horns struggles at the free throw line was a glaring issue through the first half as the Yellowjackets took a 19-13 lead at the half. The game remained close; however, Boyd would prevail 48-40.
“We just did not play that well on either side of the ball,” said head coach Steve Sandusky. “On defense we looked sluggish and were not as aggressive as we need to be.”
Taten Vann and J.D. Moore paced the team with 12 points in the contest. Vann recorded three rebounds, two assists and two steals; Moore added six rebounds.
The Prairie Valley Lady Bulldogs took the court next, playing the away team to the Boyd.
PV had a rough go at the game as they were unable to break through to double digits until the fourth quarter. Boyd won 49-10. Read more, and see box scores, in the mid-week Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
