Nocona City Council approves food truck rules

After four months of examining other cities’ food truck ordinances, the Nocona City Council discussed and approved an ordinance regulating those businesses that operate within the city limits.
Last November after hearing questions and concerns about food truck operations, the city staff was directed to review other ordinances to help develop one for Nocona. That recommendation went to the council at its Feb. 14 meeting.
Many of the complaints about food vendors came from local restaurant operators who said those food trucks were not paying property tax in Nocona and most were not paying the sales tax into the city, but into the community where they reside. Others are possibly not paying it at all.
The seven-page ordinance defines what is considered a mobile food vendor whether it be a non-motorized car or a truck or van.

Summer Olympics this week’s summer reading theme

Bowie Public Library’s Summer Reading program continues on July 16 with the Olympics.
It will be all about the upcoming Summer Olympics with outdoor games at the soccer field. Summer reading wraps up with the popular Creature Teacher on July 23 who brings lots of animals to the kids to see up close.
Any questions about summer reading can be directed to the library staff by calling 872-2681 or follow their Facebook page.
Summer reading is open to children ages 0-12. Keep a summer reading log and earn a book.

Space adventures coming to Nocona Library

Nocona Library’s Summer Reading program continues at 10 a.m. on July 17 at the Justin Building at 100 Clay Street.
The program will be space adventures and include a demonstration of a drone. Make plans to attend.
