Jim Bowie Car Show on March 28
Members of the Piston Heads Auto Club will fill Pelham Park with classic cars for the 23rd annual Jim Bowie Car Show on March 28.
This show is always a colorful and exciting event to kick off spring as vehicles of all vintage and styles line up under the oaks of Pelham Park. It takes place rain or shine.
Registration is 9 to 11 a.m. and show time is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration on the day of the show is $25.
There will be 75 award categories with a class winner and runner-up in each plus specialty awards for Best in Show, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engine, distance traveled and largest club.
Car classes run from 1939 or older to present day with special categories for Mustangs, Camaros and corvettes, plus 1955-57 Chevys.
Truck classes are 1939 or older to present, along with miscellaneous classes for rat rods, motorcycles or vehicles under construction.

Montague County Commissioner’s Court handled a brief agenda of routine business during its final meeting of April on Monday.
The May 25 regular court meeting was moved to May 26 due to the Memorial Day holiday.
An engagement letter was accepted for Edgin, Parkman, Fleming and Fleming PC to conduct the 2025-26 outside audit. County Judge Kevin Benton noted in a letter the audit firm projects a reduction in the cost from $35,500 this past year to $34,250 for the next fiscal year.
Dr. Chance Dingler will continue to serve as the county health authority as the court approved his appointment.

The administration and staff of Bowie Independent School District are trying to gauge community interest in the district offering free pre-kindergarten for all students who are four years old by Sept. 1, 2026.
This potential program would allow more children in the community to begin their educational journey early in a supportive and engaging environment.
Enrollment packets will be available on May 7.
Those interested are invited to a come-and-go round-up from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on May 7 at the elementary.
Once again it’s time for the Free Comic Book Day Mini-Con at the Bowie Public Library on May 2.
What began several years ago as a free comic book day has grown into a full day of fun activities for the entire family centered around comics, video games, cosplayers and other creatives.
It is organized by the Bowie TX Freakz & Geeks and the Bowie Public Library. Activities run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library located at 301 Walnut.
There will be free comic books to kick start or expand your collection, an epic video game high score tournament, costume contest for cosplayers of all levels, raffles swag giveaways and exclusive goodies. Unique vendors also will be on hand with special guests. Bowie TX Freakz & Geeks is a local discord group on a mission to bring nerd culture and a better connection to the area and surrounding communities. Find group on Facebook.
