LOCAL COLLEGES: NCTC’s Harp resigns as baseball coach

Scott Harp has stepped down as North Central Texas College baseball coach, after 17 years with the program.
Harp coached scores of baseball players in the region, including current Nocona head coach Brent Lewis and former Indian player Caleb Swofford.
Harp made his decision after the Lions swept Vernon College in a doubleheader on May 2.
He has been the head coach at NCTC for the past 11 seasons. Before that, he served as an assistant under Kevin Darwin from 1998-2004.
NCTC public information officer Darin Allred reported Harp will continue to teach history classes at the school.
Harp will be able to spend more time with his family.
“You give up a lot of weekends when you are coaching at a community college,” Harp said in a prepared press release from NCTC. “It’s been an amazing run, but it’s time for a new adventure.” Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
