Pre-K, kindergarten ‘signing day” planned

Celebrate the big day of your child starting pre-kindergarten or kindergarten with “Signing Day” from 4-6 p.m. on May 8 at Bowie Elementary School.
Any family who has a three to five-year-old that will be registered for the 2023-24 school year are invited to this special celebration that harkens to a graduate signing to move on to higher education.
Families can meet the teachers, pick up registration packets and take a picture of the day. The campus Head Start team from Region 9 Education Service Center also will be on hand to answer questions and assist with the application.

NHS hosts one-act play performance prior to district contest

Nocona High School’s one-act play, “Brian the Comet” will be presented in a public performance at 3 p.m. on March 17.
The students will compete for district at 2 p.m. on March 20 at Archer City High School.

Bowie one-act play wins district, bi-district March 22

Bowie High School’s one-act play production of “A Monster Calls” won district on March 7 and will advance to bi-district competition on March 22 in Graham.
Directed by April Word, the play also received some special awards.
Corban Word was named best overall performer with Owen Hoffbauer and Lily Hamilton named to the All Star Cast. Lia Meier was named honorable mention All Star Cast and Santiago Garcia received a tech award.
Cast and crew includes: Lia Meier, Owen Hoffbauer, Corben Wolsey, Adryana Torres, Lily Hamilton, Adam Hoffbauer, Jerry Wymore, Nicholai Brady, Taylor Sanderson, Liliana Zilfo, Garyson Minyard, Jett Black, Jake Cox, Scarlett Jolly, Trently Brewer, Keller Dosch, Adamari Alonso, Santiago Garcia and Jakson Hoffbauer.
For the March 22 bi-district schedule of plays, Bowie will go second that day after Breckenridge’s, “Mrs. Packard.” Eastland follows with “The Shape of the Grave,” Holliday is next with “Anatomies,” Early with “Silent Sky” and Henrietta with “These Shining Lives.”
Two plays will advance out of bi-district to regionals, followed by state.

Guests readers celebrate Dr. Seuss’ books

It was Dr. Seuss Week at Bowie Elementary celebrating the ever popular Cat in the Hat books and the birthday of its author Theodor Geisel.
