AREA FOOTBALL: Saint Jo pounds Bryson in season-ending game

Published

on

All seven of Saint Jo’s seniors scored in some fashion – including Daimeon Lawler tackling a Bryson player in the end zone – as the Panthers ended the 2014 campaign on a high note with a comfortable 32-point victory, 54-22.
“That was our motivation,” Saint Jo head coach Chad Tallon said. “We wanted to get a win and get to .500. This means a lot to all the seniors. We’d been struggling. But, they put it all together here. It was one of our most complete games of the year.”
Laramie Brawner added an 80-yard punt return touchdown, covering the entire length of a 6-man football field.
Garrett Parker punched in two third-quarter TDs and Colton Thomas, Anthony Gutierrez and Baltazar Lozano also scored rushing TDs.
Saint Jo was up 24-8 at halftime, and the Panthers coasted from there.
The team racked up 417 total yards in offense. Gutierrez keyed the ground game with 157 yards on 17 carries. Parker rushed for 93 yards and added 59 more rushing. Colton Thomas caught two passes for 51 yards. Read the mid-week Bowie News for more.

Bowie, Nocona compete in VB scrimmages

Published

on

Nocona’s volleyball team headed to Bowie for a three-team scrimmage with the host team and Ponder Aug. 7.

Each team played the other two for 30 minutes in the Lady Rabbit gym. Lady Indian Coach Sandy Langford said she thought things went well for a first scrimmage.

“Just like any young team that is trying to find itself in a first scrimmage, We looked really good at times and at others not so much,” Langford said. “We’re forming a new team after losing a lot of seniors.”

Langford said the squad would have one thing go wrong and it would explode into several things. That will need to stop for a successful year in Langford’s mind.
