HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bowie girls, boys play tonight
Bowie High School athletic director Dylan Stark and Pottsboro athletic director Matt Poe announced on Monday evening the Conference 3A playoff boys’/girls’ basketball doubleheader has been moved to today.
Bowie and Pottsboro boys’ will play a bi-district game at 5 p.m. at Denton High School.
The Jackrabbits come into the game with a record of 23-9, rattling off 11 straight wins in district play.
Should Bowie defeat Pottsboro tonight, it will play the winner of a game between Glen Rose and Dallas Life Oak Cliff in the area round. The date, time and location have yet to be determined.
The Jackrabbits haven’t played since a Feb. 17 game against Henrietta, which Bowie won 40-22.
Bowie’s girls have won 17 straight games dating back to the Whataburger Tournament during the final week of December.
Bowie (29-5) will take on Pottsboro in a regional quarterfinal at 6:30 p.m., also at Denton High.
The Lady Rabbits, should they win tonight, would then play Alba-Golden or Mt. Vernon in the regional semifinals at Rockwall Heath on Feb. 27.
The girls last played on Feb. 19, with a 59-44 conquest over Keene in the area round.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
