LOCAL SPORTS: Weather dampens events

Published

on

Rain made for soggy fields and tracks on Monday, and there were a couple of postponements of note because of it.
Bowie’s JV White baseball team was expected to play at Burkburnett, but that game was postponed. Baseball coach Ryan Rogers reported the game will be rescheduled for a future date.
A junior high school track and field meet set for Nocona was scrapped.
However, the meet will still take place today at Jack Crain Stadium.
There will be a scratch meeting at 2:30 p.m. followed by field events. Throwers will be given three attempts apiece.
At 4:15 p.m., seventh-grade boys and girls will race in the 2,400-meter run together, followed by the eighth-grade boys’ and girls’ race.
Running events will take place starting at 5:15 p.m.
Here’s the order for the running events: 400-meter relay, 800 run, 100 hurdles for girls, 110 hurdles for boys, 100 dash, 800 relay, 400 dash, 300 hurdles for both boys and girls, 200 dash, 1600 run and 1600 relay.
Seventh-grade boys and girls will run together, followed by the eighth-grade combined race.
Other runs will use the following format: seventh-grade girls, eighth-grade girls, seventh-grade boys and eighth-grade boys.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
