Bill the Bull brings a unique story to children

Published

By DEBRA DUNLAP

On a rare sunny day in mid-May, Bill the Bull attended school. But Bill wasn’t there to learn. Instead he attended Bowie Elementary School to teach a valuable lesson about bullying.

The gentle giant, a six-year-old Charlais-cross bull, is the star of a children’s book local teacher Cindy Hedeman wrote and illustrated, entitled “Bill is No Bully.”

The book, released earlier this spring, tells the story of Bill’s life, which began on a ranch in Shepherd, near Houston. Born of championship bucking stock, Bill was expected to become a famous rodeo bull. Owner Alexis Bradford, then a nine-year-old girl, brought the young calf home in an ice storm, bottle-fed him and gave him special attention.

It turned out that Bill was a lover not a fighter. Read the full feature in your Saturday News.
