OUTDOORS: Ducks unlimited? TPWD sets season
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission on Aug. 20 approved the 2015-16 waterfowl season.
According to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department press release, Texas should have some higher water level marks to greet record populations of wintering waterfowl.
Most species are expected to be well above long-term averages, with mallards and green-winged teal reaching new all-time highs.
There will be a staggered open this season in the north and south zones. The only change to the daily bag limit on ducks this season is an increase to two canvasbacks.
Changes to goose regulations include an increase in the number of hunting days for white-fronted geese in the eastern zone from 72 to 86. The bag limit for Canada geese increases from three to five daily, including in the early season.
The daily aggregate bag limit of no more than two white-fronted geese remains in effect. In the western zone, the daily bag limit on white-fronted geese also increases this season. Read more, and see complete season tables for all waterfowl, in the print and electronic versions of The Bowie News.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reports there should be an abundance of waterfowl available for hunters during the upcoming season, which starts on Oct. 31 with special youth hunts. (Courtesy photo by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department)
