The Gold-Burg High School football team will open the season with two straight home games before heading on the road for three in a row.
Gold-Burg will play Benjamin at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 in Stoneburg, and the team follows that with another home date on Sept. 2 versus Lakeland Christian.
Gold-Burg and Lakeland Christian, a private school located in Lewisville, played each other in a scrimmage during the 2014 season.
“It’s a mix of what we had last year,” Gold-Burg football coach and athletic director Jay Johnson, who recently added the duties of principal at the rural school.
“We are playing Benjamin and Northside,” Johnson said. “We have some very tough opponents on the road. Denton Calvary runs a fast offense.”
Gold-Burg faces three straight road games starting Sept. 9 at Denton Calvary, followed by a Sept. 16 game at Harrold and then Sept. 23 at Northside.
Harrold had trouble fielding a team last season, while Northside has a new coach in Brett White, who most recently was head coach at Oklahoma 11-man school Frederick. Read more, and see the complete schedule, in the June 25 Bowie News in print or with your electronic subscription.
