STORM CENTER: Please become more involved

“Communication leads to community; that is, to understanding, intimacy and moral valuing,” – Rollo May.
Rollo May was an American psychologist and author of one of the most influential books of the 1960s called “Love and Will.”
That above quote has always been about the following two ideals: “Getting involved” and “Team unity.”
Bowie Booster Club president Keith Weber picked a theme for the 2016-17 academic year called, “Get Involved.”
So far, the number of people attending booster club meetings has increased from 2015-16.
At the opening meeting on Aug. 1, there were about 20 people – although the number declined at the second gathering on Aug. 8.
I think booster club attendance was down, in part, due to the Bowie Sports Association awards night at Haggar Sports Complex.
I’m hoping we have higher numbers once again at the meeting set for Aug. 15.
But, there’s one thing I find truly disappointing, there’s only one football parent who takes the time to come to meetings – Jennifer Clement.
Jennifer is the mother of player L.B. Clement, and she’s trying her darnedest to help out. But, it’s tough when she’s the only one.
Football parents, I’m not shaming you. However, we need more involvement from you, especially if we are going to grow the program and help it sustain.
Please get involved in the booster club. Your child needs your support. Thanks. Read more from this column in the Aug. 13 Bowie News.
Editor’s Note: The Storm Center column is the expressed written views of sports editor Eric Viccaro and not The Bowie News.
One area the Bowie Athletic Booster Club needs help with is transporting and operating the new inflatable run-through. The group is seeking more participation at meetings and athletic events. (News photo by Eric Viccaro)
