HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: It’s a season left on base for Bowie

The Bowie and Paradise High School baseball teams were both in survival mode on Friday evening.
The Jackrabbits gave themselves a chance to win in bottom of the fifth inning as a Keck Jones single scored by Evan Kennedy and Gabe Allen.
However, Paradise answered with three runs in the sixth, and then the Panthers smothered the Jackrabbits with four more in the seventh for an 11-5 conquest on Friday.
“We made a few errors in the sixth inning, and that’s when the game got away from us,” said Bowie head coach Ryan Rogers.
This marks the first season in Rogers’ tenure as coach that Bowie didn’t qualify for the postseason – but the Jackrabbits are a young team full of promise for the future.
Bowie was 12-16-1, 7-7 in District 3A-8 – shut out from the postseason along with nearby rival Henrietta. Jacksboro topped Boyd Friday to claim the 3A-8 crown, with Holliday and Paradise also as qualifiers.
It marked the final game for five Bowie seniors in utility player Gabe Allen, outfielders Cooper Huffstutler, Cody Byler and Jesse Davis and catcher Pete Cunningham. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the May 3 Bowie News.
