Traffic light upgrades to begin
A $270,000 contract to upgrade the traffic lights in Nocona is mobilizing this week.
Adele Lewis, public information officer for the Wichita Falls Texas Department of Transportation office, said a contractor will be setting up barricades later this week in preparation of work beginning.
New signal poles, as well as traffic signals are being installed on U.S. Highway 82 at Farm-to-Market 103 and on U.S. 82 at State Highway 175.
FM 103 currently only has a span wire to hold its signal heads. Lewis said the upgrade will raise the new signals enough to avoid hits from over height loads experienced by the current signals.
Along with the new poles and signals, the intersections will be programmed to function as one intersection to improve service to motorists.
The contractor Durable Specialties will have about two months to complete the installation.
The staff of Brazos Electric Cooperative will host a public meeting to share information and receive feedback on a proposed 138kV transmission line project in Montague County.
This meeting will be from 4-6 p.m. on July 27 in the H.J. Justin Building, 100 Clay, Nocona.

This come-and-go public meeting will provide information and seek input on the rebuild and upgrade of a 14-mile transmission line. The propoosed 138kV double-circuit transmission line will connect the existing Alcorn Substation on Salmon Road with the existing Capps Corner Substation on Farm-to-Market Road 1956 and FM 677. The proposed right-of-way width for the new transmission line is 70 feet.
Attendees will be able to make comments, ask questions and share concerns with Brazos representatives and technical specialists from Oaklight Environmental Consulting.
