The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 167 pounds of marijuana Sunday, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Montague County.

At approximately 12:40 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2017 Ford Taurus traveling south on US-81 near Bowie, for a traffic violation.  A Saint Jo Police Department canine arrived at the scene and alerted on the vehicle.  The Trooper then discovered marijuana in the trunk of the Taurus.

The driver – Samuel Alexander Vargas, 28, of League City, Texas – was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana.  Vargas was transported and booked into the Montague County jail. His bond was set at $75,000.
