School year begins next week, Meet the Teachers set

Next week the new school year begins across Montague County and Bellevue. All the schools have planned various activities to launch the year and they are listed below.
Bowie Independent School District
Aug. 12 – Meet the Teacher, 5-6:30 p.m., elementary and intermediate and 5:30 – 7 p.m., junior and senior high school
Aug. 14 – First day of school
Bellevue ISD
Aug. 13: 6 p.m., Meet the Teacher
Aug. 15: First day of School
Forestburg ISD
Aug. 12: Meet the Teacher, 6-6:50 p.m, Meet the Longhorns, 7-8 p.m.
Aug. 15: First day of school
Gold-Burg ISD
Aug. 13: Meet the Teacher and Meet the Bears, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Aug. 15: First day of school
Montague ISD
Aug. 15: Meet the Teacher and new addition ribbon cutting, 5 p.m.
Aug. 19: First day of school
Nocona ISD
Aug. 12: 5 p.m., Fish Camp (freshman), Football parent meeting, 6:30 p.m.
Aug. 14: Meet the Teacher, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. elementary; 4:30-6:30 p.m., middle school
Aug. 15: First day of school
Aug. 19: Meet the Indians, 7 p.m.
Prairie Valley ISD
Aug. 12: Meet the Teacher, 5:30-7 p.m.
Aug. 15: First day of school
Saint Jo ISD

Nocona senior takes state feature writing title

Abigail Hill, Nocona High School valedictorian, is the 2026 UIL feature writing state champion. Nocona faculty have been looking through school records and UIL records to see when Nocona last had someone won state. UIL record archives only date back to 1983 and they didn’t see anyone listed as winning a gold medal in Academic UIL. According to Nocona records, she is the first UIL Academic Champion since 1973. Bowie Kindergarten students graduate

Bowie Elementary kindergarten students entertained the huge audience that attended the graduation ceremonies at the high school gym on May 21. Each kindergarten class performed a song for the guests. They also were invited to dress as their future career choice such as a doctor or a police officer.

Gold-Burg grad serving NASA internship

Midwestern State University junior Rykir Evans is not only building his skills during a NASA internship—he’s creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Evans has been a remote student at MSU Texas this semester while completing the internship. During that time, he had the opportunity to meet American naval aviator and NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman, as well as NASA Chief Flight Director Gene Kranz.
“It definitely has been an amazing experience thus far, and meeting all of the super inspirational figures in flesh and blood was definitely surreal,” Evans said.
