Jackrabbits lose close one against Henrietta 22-20

Published

The Bowie Jackrabbits almost came away with their first win on Friday for homecoming against Henrietta.
The Jackrabbits led for most of the game, but a touchdown and two point conversion from the Bearcats in the fourth quarter led to Henrietta winning 22-20.
Bowie got on the board in the first quarter as running back Ty Harris finished a drive with a two-yard run. The Bearcats connected on a 46-yard touchdown pass to respond, but a failed extra point saw the Jackrabbits still up 7-6.
In the second quarter Harris got loose for a 60-yard touchdown run. With the extra point good and the defense holding up, Bowie led 14-6 heading into halftime.
Henrietta tied the score up in the third quarter as it capped a successful drive with short touchdown run. The two-point conversion was good on a short pass as the score was tied 14-14.
The Jackrabbits retook the lead in the same quarter as quarterback Colby Miller was able to find a lane for 17 yards on a touchdown run. The extra point was no good as Bowie led 20-14 heading into the fourth quarter.
Midway through the fourth quarter the Bearcats were able to score on a short run. Henrietta elected to go for two again after its kicking game failed in the first quarter. The Bearcats converted again to go up 22-20 with about half the quarter still to play.
The Jackrabbits could not take advantage as the clock ran out and Henrietta won.
Despite the loss, Bowie easily played its best game of the season. The offense only had one turnover on a lost fumble after coughing the ball up at least 10 times in the previous two game combined. Harris led the team with 125 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Miller had 123 yards of offense and scored a touchdown on the ground. Boo Oakley led the team with three catches for 44 yards.

Jacksboro defeats Lady Rabbit VB, 3-1

Bowie, playing on a short rest, held with host Jacksboro for most of the volleyball match Oct. 1, but the Tigerettes pulled away late and defeated the Lady Rabbits 3-1 (26-24, 12-25, 25-14, 22-25).

The match was scheduled for Oct. 2 but was moved. Both teams are now 2-2 in District 6-3A.

Jacksboro got out to a quick lead in game one before Olivia Stewart’s kill and a three-point Olivia Richey serving run put the visitors up 8-7. Junior Abby Reneau broke things open with a six-point string to give Bowie a 15-8 cushion and force Jacksboro into a timeout.

The Tigerettes came back and took an 18-16 lead. KP Rutherford’s kill broke the serve and allowed Molly Enlow to tie the game at 18.

Gold-Burg gives it a go, falls to Perrin 35-32

Published

Gold-Burg Football Coach Austin Norman called his Bears’ 35-32 loss to host Perrin a “barn burner”.

It most definitely was as Gold-Burg, now 1-5 for the year gave the 5-1 Pirates everything they wanted for four quarters. Gold-Burg scored on the last play of the first half on a Peyton Epperson run with the two point conversion cutting the deficit to 20-16.

The Bears were their own worst enemy to open the third quarter with face mask and offside penalties moving the Pirates downfield setting up a first-and-goal at the Bear three. Defense by Epperson, Keelyn Case and Barrett Allen and a pair of Perrin penalties helped stop the drive and force a turnover on downs.

Gold-Burg was slapped with an intentional grounding penalty on the first play, giving Perrin a safety and extending the Pirate lead to 22-16. Defense by Epperson and JoJuan Grace after a first down run closed out the third quarter.
