Longhorn killed; reward offered for information

The shooting of a prized Longhorn in Montague County last week has lead to an outpouring of support for the family with fellow ranchers from across the state adding to the reward which is at $6,500 as of Thursday.
The death of Bud, a 2,200 pound 13-year-old brindle Longhorn steer, was reported to the Montague County Sheriff’s office on Jan. 13.
Chief Deputy Jack Lawson said Paul Stanley, 1828 Starkey Road, told officers he checked on the steer that morning and about 4:30 p.m. later that day found him dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Bud was in a 100-acre pasture on the Jagged Edge Ranch south of U.S. Highway 82 between Nocona and Saint Jo with eight other Longhorns and one donkey.
Stanley reported he has never had a problem with livestock being shot, although they have had trouble with poachers.
