Lifetime interest in genealogy fills family trees

I have been searching through my ancestry most of my life. It started with my grandfather telling me stories his grandfather had told him, one who he saw and the other who died long before he was born.
I became curious about these people as grandpa, Lige Russell talked about them and I wanted to know more than he could give me. In the case of my grandfather’s grandfather on his father’s side, William Russell, he knew very little.
He knew had been in the Civil War and at one point he deserted and hid under a bridge, underneath where two officers sat on their horses discussing which way he may have went. That was all grandpa knew.
He didn’t know much about where he had lived except coming to Montague County in late 1881 and dying the following year. I wanted to know what he looked like. All Grandpa could say that his father said he was a big two-fisted Irishman.

Saint Jo City Council reschedules its February meeting

After cancelling its meeting due to illness earlier this month, the Saint Jo City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Feb. 19 at city hall.

Agenda items are:

  1. Consider resolution to allow the Saint Jo Riding Club to access city-owned property adjacent to the rodeo arena to be used for parking for club-hosted events.
  2. Discuss request from Dennis Elmore about 5.87 acres on West Howell to build on lots 6 and 7.
  3. Discuss and act on updated ordinance from the workshop conducted on Jan. 22.
  4. Approve minutes and bills, along with printed reports.

Father/daughter dance welcomes big crowd
