Bowie ISD Trustees meet on Monday
Members of the Bowie Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 in the board room.
The agenda is filled with numerous updates about the new school year including campus enrollment, homecoming activities and accountability.
The ongoing teacher shortage has prompted the district to activate an emergency permit due to an appropriately certified and qualified individual cannot be secured to assignment in the district. There is one teacher at the elementary, three at the intermediate and two at the high school on this list.
A teacher certification waiver request to allow a qualified individual to teach outside her area of certification in alternative education will be reviewed.
Trustees will discuss replacing the synthetic turf at the high school softball field by Hellas Construction not to exceed $365,000. This project has been discussed the last two months as the turf has surpassed its life expectancy of 10 years. The district may use part of its COVID relief funds to pay for part of the project.
In other action items, the District of Innovation plan for 2022-27 will be considered for approval, along with the purchase of computer alignment equipment and accessories for the county auto technology program not to exceed $36,000.

Amon Carter Lake Water Corp. reorganizes board
By BARBARA GREEN

After more than a year of turmoil and upheaval it appears the Amon Carter Lake Water Supply Corporation is back on its feet with a slate of new board members and plans to review by-laws and operations.
Last August all the board members resigned in the wake of a lawsuit by a resident who could not obtain water for a small housing development despite being in the district. The property owner also accused the board of not following open meetings or open records laws, or its own by-laws.
After the board resigned a receivership was requested from the court and was named in December 2025. The receiver or temporary manager was Nocona attorney Zach Renfro, who was directed by the court to seek out possible directors to rehabilitate the association and assure it meets the obligation of continuing to provide water to more than 300 members.
The corporation board conducted its first general membership meeting on March 27 where a state of the corporation was given and new directors
named. They are Kevin McShan, president; Josh Swint, vice president; Carla Swofford, secretary; Wesley Kelly, treasurer; Zach Gunter, Rob Hankins and Chase Thomas, all directors.
