Nocona Council to set public hearing date on budget
The Nocona City Council will meet at 5 p.m. on Aug. 11 at city hall.
In the workshop agenda, Blake McNew will speak on the new registration requirements for golf carts and utility vehicles.
The council will call the Nov. 3 general election and discuss a negotiated settlement between the Atmos Cities Steering Committee for the 2026 rate review. A bid for hot mix asphalt also will be reviewed.
Police Chief Kent Holcomb will make a month report on the public nuisance code, violations and tickets.
The council will discuss advertising for bids to replace the asphalt with concrete at the intersection of Cooke and Willow Streets, along with bids to build a new golf cart shed at Indian Oaks Golf Course. Plans to paint the cemetery entrances also will be discussed.
The proposed 2026-27 budget will be examined, followed by setting of budget hearing and adoption for 5 p.m. on Sept. 8.
Possible tax rates will be presented based on the certified net property values of $221,949,622. They include: No new revenue rate of .3182 cents per $100 in property value; voter approval rate of .3487 cents and a proposed rate of .3487 cents.
A lease agreement with the Montague County Youth Fair Board for use of the barn will be presented.
Come out and support local music and help area churches stock up on food for the upcoming holidays by attending “Casting Out Matthew 4:19” in concert on Aug. 29 at the Bowie Community Center.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with the show at 6 p.m. Please bring a non-perishable food item that will go to local churches and food bank.
There will be live music, showcasing community and compassion throughout the night.
The concert will be followed by Bowie Open Mic Night. Take this opportunity to perform and support the town.
Montague County 4-H invites students and families interested in 4-H programs to attend an exploration program from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Aug. 29 at the Montague County Cowboy Church, 1600 FM 455.
Find out about the local clubs and all the projects a member might explore including STEM, poultry, home economics, shooting sports, horse, swine, cattle and much more.
Texoma Gives, the community project that supported non-profits through a donation campaign, stopped in 2025, but KFDX/KJTL stepped up to take it over and it will resume on Sept. 3.
After more than 10 years of providing an central spot for people to support nonprofits across North Texas and southern Oklahoma, the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation board announced it would no long host the day of giving. During its run about $13 million in donations.
