Bowie FB loses to Jacksboro

Homecoming did not go the way Bowie fans wanted it to Sept. 18 with No.5-ranked Jacksboro getting out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and never letting off the gas in a 70-34 victory.

Bowie falls to 3-1 while the Tigers go to 4-0. Bowie Coach Tyler Price said the squad had some issues defensively.

“Defensively, we did not play fundamentally sound or do what we were coached to do,” Price said. “Jacksboro played very well, so you have to give them credit.”

The Tigers scored on two of their first three drives to lead 14-0 with 3:11 left in the first. The Rabbits cut the lead in half on the ensuing drive, using a long Judah Livsey kick return to set up Tyler Richey who had a 37-yard scoring run down the right side two plays later. Roberto Alvarado’s extra point with 2:41 left cut the deficit to 14-7.

County XC teams compete

A number of local cross country teams competed at the Wyatt Dickerson Invitational in Alvord Sept. 16.

On the boy’s side, Prairie Valley placed 6^th overall as a team. The Bulldogs were led by Josh Stout with a time of 20:18.59. He was followed by Jackson McKay with a time of 22:12.22, Leevi Brown in, 22:25.63, Landry Allen in 22:59.85, and Dayne Sadler in 23:48.54.

Also running for Prairie Valley were Jax Kutie in 25:00.60, Chisum Carpenter with a time of 26:15.63, Andy Gomez in 28:00.28, Greyson Combs in 28:02.40 and Sawyer Bray in 31:36.36.

Nocona was led by Levi Newland who finished 14^th at a time of 18:45.08. He was followed by Corbyn Patton in 20:11.75, Brady Cunningham in 24:47.60 and Anthony Burrows in 32:57.51.

Bellevue volleyball swept by Garner

Bellevue had its first volleyball game on its home floor Sept. 15, taking on Garner.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t a “grand” opening night as the Lady Longhorns took control from the opening serve and posted a 25-13, 25-11, 25-8 win.

Brylie Hager’s ace put the Lady Eagles up 2-1 in game one. It would be the only lead Bellevue would have in the opener with Garner breaking serve and then rolling of five straight points for a 7-2 lead. Emma Blaylock’s pair of points,. Blaylock had the only serving point of the game with help from kills from Karis Denson and Blaylock herself, cut the lead to two,

Brooklyn Shook’s point, which cut the deficit to 7-9, would be the last Bellevue serving point of the game. Kills from Denson and Blaylock broke serve but Garner’s frontcourt continued to cause Bellevue fits and ended game one.

Lady Rabbits VBall defeats Callisburg

For the second straight match, Bowie stormed back after a loss and cruised to a 3-1 win over visiting Callisburg (21-25, 25-29, 25-20, 25-25-14).

A solid front court match for the Lady Rabbits helped close out the non-district portion of Bowie’s volleyball schedule. The Lady Rabbits looked for the three-game sweep, getting out to a good start in game one. Molly Enlow’s three-point string, with help from a KP Rutherford kill, put Bowie up 4-1. Callisburg led 9-8 before Bella Culwell’s scoring run put the hostesses up 11-9.

Both teams broke serve regularly to keep the game tight with Olivia Stewart, Rutherford, Taelyn Webb and Ellie Mowery doing the job up front for the Lady Rabbits. A Mowery kill and a pair of Enlow serving points gave Bowie a 21-19 lead.

It was all Lady ‘Cats from there as the game was served out to the dismay of the Lady Rabbits. The dismay didn’t last long as Enlow staked Bowie to a 4-0 lead in game two. Rutherford forced a Callisburg timeout with a point. Sophomore Gracelyn Russell’s two points and a Stewart kill put Bowie ahead 11-6.
