Bowie’s Melton set for national softball tournament

Callie Melton, a member of the 14-under Wichita Falls Heat, will be playing the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) national tournament in San Diego from July 28-Aug. 3.
Melton is a 13-year-old girl from Bowie who will be entering the high school as a freshman this fall.
The Wichita Falls Heat made the national tournament based on their performance at the state event in Brenham back in June.
The Heat team also features players from Wichita Falls, Iowa Park, Burkburnett, City View and Seymour.
Melton has been on this team for three years and plays first base. She has also played volleyball at Bowie Junior High.
The Wichita Falls Heat is a member of the Sunrise Optimist Girls Softball Association, sanctioned by ASA softball.
