OUTDOORS: Hunting, fishing licenses available now

Published

on

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department would like to remind outdoor enthusiasts that hunting and fishing licenses will be available on Aug. 15.
It’s easier than ever to get a hunter education certification since the course is now available online at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website: www.tpwd.state.tx.us.
On the front page of the TPWD website, there is a link to an email reminder service. People may provide an email address, and get reminded on Aug. 15, which is a Saturday.
Courses are available online to Texas residents age 17 and older.
To hunt legally in Texas, anyone born after Sept. 2, 1971, must complete a hunter education training course or purchase a one-time deferral, which is good for only one year.
The TPWD offers other convenient methods for getting certified.
One is the basic hunter education course, which is designed for novice and young hunters and requires six hours of classroom instruction.
Another method is the enhanced hunter education course, a combination of an online and home study program that requires up to five hours in the field.
A third option is the advanced hunter education course, which requires more than six hours of instruction and includes more content than the basic and enhanced courses.
Each of the courses cost $15, and the passing grade for all of them is 75 percent. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
