For Goehring, a homecoming

Bryan Goehring remembers what it’s like to compete against basketball players from the Bellevue Independent School District.
Now Goehring will be coaching for Bellevue in what serves as a Clay County homecoming.
Goehring is a 1994 graduate of Byers, which shuttered its high school a couple of years ago.
The Bellevue ISD hired Goehring as the new girls’ basketball coach and he’ll also be a kindergarten through 12th-grade physical education instructor.
“It means a lot to me,” Goehring said in a telephone interview with The Bowie News on Monday. “Everybody likes to come home. I’ve missed Texas.”
At Byers, Goehring was a 5-foot-10 guard – playing both backcourt spots – and Bellevue and Byers were in the same Conference 1A district back then.
Goehring brings an impressive resume to the table.
During the past three years at West Craven High School at Vanceboro, N.C., he coached the Eagles’ boys’ basketball team to an 80-13 record. Read more of this story in the weekend edition of The Bowie News.
