HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Awards presented for District 1A-21 girls

Bellevue’s Ally Corwin was named the offensive most valuable player in District 1A-21 while Forestburg’s Alexia Britain claimed defensive MVP honors.
Lance Shelton, the son of legendary Bowie head boys’ basketball coach Gayno Shelton, was chosen as the district coach of the year.
FreeDom Morris, a Bellevue freshman, shared newcomer-of-the-year honors with Bailey Meyer from Slidell.
Kayler Talamantes, another Greyhound, was named the overall district MVP.
Bellevue’s Devon Cassetty and Emily Trail were both named to the first team in 1A-21, along with Forestburg’s MaKayla Mason.
Local second-team all-district choices were Saint Jo’s Charity Brawner, Megan Brown from Bellevue, Kaylee Choate and Hope Phipps from Forestburg and Prairie Valley’s Brooklyn Messer.
Several others were named honorable mention: Gold-Burg’s Madi Eckeberger, Lexy Hand and Genevieve Hanna, Cayla Smelser of Forestburg and Zoe Berry from Bellevue. Read more in the March 5 Bowie News.
