AWARDS: Bowie recalls sports seasons

A multitude of athletes were honored Monday as Bowie High School had its all-sports banquet at the Bowie Community Room.
Courtney Brady, a three-time all-state girls’ basketball player, was named given the prestigious Lady Rabbit Award.
Meanwhile, it was tougher to determine who would take home the Jackrabbit Award, so it was split between Trace Hardee and Zeke Vaughan.
That was the major hardware handed out at the ceremony, which lasted more than two hours, highlighted by a tearful speech from Chuck Hall during boys’ cross country awards.
Brady will be playing basketball next season for Southeastern Oklahoma State, and she will be playing in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-star game in San Antonio later this week.
Brady averaged 18.3 points per game, knocked down 57 3-pointers and made 83 percent of her free throws. She also was a member of the cross country team.
Zeke Vaughan flourished in several sports at Bowie, ranging from basketball to cross country to track and field.
Vaughan recently scored 16 points for Bowie at the University Interscholastic League state meet, including two bronze medals in the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump. He averaged 10.5 points per game during basketball season.
Hardee came through for Bowie during a heap of pressure situations, including this weekend as Trace earned the win during the second game of a best-of-3 series versus Palmer – catapulting the Jackrabbits to the Conference 3A regional quarterfinals. Read more in the May 18 Bowie News.
