On Thursday afternoon, Bowie High School hurdler and jumper Zeke Vaughan signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue his track and field career at Angelo State.
Vaughan becomes the first male Bowie track and field athlete to sign a Letter of Intent since middle distance specialist Kevin Dunn, who competed at Wayland Baptist in Plainview.
“Zeke’s work ethic,” said Bowie coach Daylon West when asked what make Vaughan so marketable to colleges. “He’s coachable. Everything you ask him to do, he will go above and beyond.”
Vaughan said signing with Angelo State came quickly.
“I emailed them my marks and times at the state meet,” Vaughan said, “and they returned communication, giving me a scholarship offer.”
Bowie is quite familiar with Angelo State.
Last year, softball player Petie Wolsey signed a letter of intent to play softball there. Assistant football and head powerlifting coach Quentin Berend also is an Angelo State graduate. One of Vaughan’s family members also attended there.
Vaughan said he plans on an extensive tour of the campus this Monday. Read more in the May 28 Bowie News.
