STORM CENTER: Little guys rejoice
Score one for the little schools across our area.
Conference 1A schools have been clamoring for their own baseball and softball championships, and the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council granted that wish this week at meetings in Round Rock.
On June 14, the state’s sanctioning board on high school sports approved the move, creating broad smiles across the faces of administrators in Montague County.
Saint Jo is expected to field a baseball team for the 2017 season, and it has been placed in District 2A-10.
District 2A-10 is quite meaty with the likes of Chico, Muenster and Lindsay as part of the alignment – all three of those schools were ranked in the txhighschoolbaseball.com poll during the most recent season.
Conference 1A and 2A schools will be grouped together for district play, and then the schools will advance to separate playoff brackets.
The sport of volleyball has already implemented this system.
Last year, Forestburg and Saint Jo qualified for the playoffs and were placed in a Conference 1A bracket. Read more of this column in the June 18 edition of The Bowie News.
