Forestburg readies watermelon festival

The Forestburg Community Service Club presents the 36th Annual watermelon festival on Aug. 13.
This year’s festival will include a children’s pet parade, parade, barbecue lunch, children’s activities, gospel and country singing, homemade ice cream, country store and crafts, and free watermelon slices.
New this year will be a dunking booth with local celebrities and a horseshoe tournament (limited to 20 teams). The community’s historical log cabin and museum will both be open with period-specific activities.

In conjunction with the watermelon festival, the Forestburg Riding Club will have its the “Biggest Little Rodeo in Texas” on Aug. 12-13. Rodeo events begin with mutton bustin’ at 8 p.m. followed by the rodeo events at 8:30 p.m. each night.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.

Youngsters attend swimming lessons this week
