HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Playoffs in peril for Bowie

The Bowie High School baseball team has put itself in a do-or-die predicament.
The Jackrabbits suffered an 11-3 loss to District 3A-8 rival Holliday on Tuesday night, forcing the team into winning Friday just for a shot at the postseason.
There’s a whole litany of playoff positions that could still shake out over the final day of the season, which was Friday.
If Bowie defeated Paradise, it would then face Henrietta in a District 3A-8 play-in game today at 7 p.m. at Hoskins Field in Wichita Falls. Heston Tole was set to take the bump for the Jackrabbits.
Also, Jacksboro played Boyd for the 3A-8 title, and the Tigers, Yellow Jackets and Eagles were slated to finish among the top-3.
“You have to tip your hat to Boyd and Jacksboro,” said Ryan Rogers. “They both had impressive seasons.”
Bowie would face Henrietta in the play-in game because the Jackrabbits would have swept the season series from Paradise.
Sure, Bowie opened up the game versus Holliday well – plating two first-inning runs. Payton Price smacked a line-drive single to score Gabe Allen – and later Imanol Walker drew a walk to score Tole, who also walked.
But, Bowie left the bases loaded in the first and the only other offense the Jackrabbits could muster was a Heston Tole home run to left field in the fifth inning.
Holliday answered Bowie’s call with a three-run spot in the first, and raised it with three more in the third. The Eagles were up 6-2, and the Tole homer still left Bowie in striking distance of a possible rally.
However, the rally simply never materialized. Read more, and see the complete box score and district standings, in the April 29 Bowie News.
