BASEBALL: Shackelford honored at Glen Rose
Davis Shackelford, a former Bowie Junior High student, was recently voted freshman of the year in District 4A-8.
Shackelford is the son of former Bowie principal and head baseball coach Kelly Shackelford, and his brother Carter is a student-athlete at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
Glen Rose finished the season with a 12-11 record, 3-9 in district games.
Shackelford finished with a standout record of 6-2, with a measly 0.66 earned run average. Those six wins were most on the Tiger pitching staff this season.
He struck out 90 batters and allowed 15 runs on 23 hits in 53 innings of work. Only five of the 15 runs Shackelford surrendered were earned.
Shackelford also was second on Glen Rose in batting average at .403, and he tied for the team lead in RBIs with 23. In addition, Davis smacked six doubles to tie for the lead in another statistical category.

The Jim Bowie Days’ Youth rodeo on June 24 were speed events while June 25 had roping events. As of July 2, result have not been posted.

The Jim Bowie Day’s golf scramble morning flight and overall winners was the team of Parker and Benton Brown on June 21 at Top of Lake of Golf Club.

The Jim Bowie Days Rodeo celebration culminated with three nights of rodeo action last week.
Produced by TNT Rodeo Company and featuring riders from the United Professional Rodeo Association, it was a great way to end a week full of of activities.
After three nights of competition the top riders were able to leave with the prize money.
In bareback riding, Triston Flinn won the event with a ride scored 57 points.
In barrel racing, Elia Gordillo and Kathy Muehen somehow tied for first place, both racing around the barrels in 17.535 seconds.
In breakaway roping, Corlee Massey got first place with a quick time of 2.410 seconds.
Team roping was won by the pair of Coy Sand and Justin Ochs who caught their calf in 4.6 seconds.
Tie-down roping was won by Kyle Parrish who secured his catch in 9.5 seconds.
The top steer wrestler was Jaylin Minor who got it to the ground in 5.2 seconds.
Ranch bronc riding was won by Jeston Gilliam who scored a ride of 80 while Jace Lane won the saddle bronc riding with a score of 81.5 points.
The last event was bull riding which was won by Noah Lee with a ride that scored 87.5 points.
