The Gold-Burg High School football team will open the 2017 season on the road at Benjamin for the second straight season.
The game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.
“I’m excited about the 6-man game,” said Gordon Williams, who was named head football coach in addition to his duties as athletic director and head boys’ basketball coach.
“I like how it’s wide open, and all the scoring,” Williams added. “I think it’s like basketball.”
Williams was a quarterback at Bowie High School in the early 1980s under then head coach Larry Stovall.
One of the interesting facets of Gold-Burg’s schedule is they are playing the North Texas Nitro twice at home this season (Sept. 9 and Oct. 20). That Sept. 9 game is a Saturday home opener.
The North Texas Nitro is a collective group of homeschooled athletes from Vernon and surrounding Wilbarger County. Read more in the June 24 Bowie News.
