RODEO: Hancock set for national finals
Recent Bowie High School graduate Kelsey Hancock has advanced to the National High School Rodeo Association meet.
Hancock scored 39 points from several breakaway roping competitions this year, and that was good enough for fourth place.
The top-four performers in several events here in Texas advance to the national competition. The events are (boys) bareback riding, cutting, bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc and steer wrestling; (girls) barrel racing, breakaway roping, girls cutting, goat tying and pole bending. There also is a team roping division.
The NHSRA finals will take place in Gillette, Wyo., from July 16-22.
Hancock will be competing for Weatherford College beginning this fall.
She was second place in the finals average on three calves.
There were 102 entries this season.
