Gold-Burg High School graduate Madelyn Eckeberger will compete in her second girls’ all-star basketball game of the summer this weekend.
Eckeberger will play on the East squad in the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association all-star game set for D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the Midwestern State University campus in Wichita Falls. Tip-off is at noon.
“I’m glad I get this opportunity,” said Eckeberger. “All the hard work I put in has paid off.”
Eckeberger said she’s looking forward to playing a game at her future alma mater. Madelyn has enrolled in the nursing program at MSU.
Eckeberger produced a decorated season – named tournament most valuable player at Vernon yet again and she played in the Chicken Express All-Star Game this past March in Mineral Wells.
Overall, Eckeberger was a second-team District 1A-21 selection and scored 351 points in 29 games for the Lady Bears. She averaged 6.3 rebounds per contest.
Eckeberger is no stranger to the Texas 6-Man games – watching Bellevue’s Brandt Cassetty play in one several years ago – and aspiring to do the same.
“I’ve wanted to play in this game since I was a freshman,” said Eckeberger. Read more in the July 12 Bowie News.

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
