No takers yet in City of Bowie election filings

One week into election filing season only the Saint Jo School Trustee election has garnered candidates for the Nov. 7 ballot.
Only four entities will have elections on the fall ballot: Cities of Bowie and Saint Jo, Bowie and Saint Jo school districts. Filing will continue through Aug. 21.
Incumbent Trustees Jeff Pledger and Rebecca Harris, both filed for re-election in Saint Jo Independent School District. The remaining incumbent, Scott Thomas, has not filed.
For the Saint Jo City Council election there are three alderman positions on the ballot. They are presently filled by Paul Mouring, Stephanie West and Bryan Wolf.
In the City of Bowie, where there is reportedly is a petition circulating to recall multiple council members and the mayor, no one has filed for the ballot.
The position of mayor and three council members are up for election. Those seats, each two-year terms, are presently filled by: Mayor Scott Davis; Wayne Bell, east precinct; Jim Graham, north precinct and Chuck Malone, south precinct.
There also have been no filings for the Bowie School Board, which has three places on the ballot: Kevin Polk, place five; Kevin Roth, place six and Brenda Ogle, place seven.
Early voting will not begin until Oct. 23 and run through Nov. 3.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
