Fire damages house, family loses pet

City of Bowie firefighters responded to a house fire at 1504 Linda Street at 7 p.m. on Aug. 2. On arrival they found flames coming out a front window and smoke billowing from the roof vents and eaves. Frank and Twila Ramsey, along with their son, Scott, reside at the home and were uninjured, unfortunately the family lost a long-time family pet, Troy the dog. The fire department did not cite a cause of the blaze, which officials said is under investigation. (News photo by Barbara Green)

Bowie Council meeting cancelled

The regular meeting of the Bowie City Council for July 22 has been cancelled. City Manager Bert Cunningham and Mayor Gaylynn Burris will be attending the Texas Public Power Association conference.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
