FOOTBALL: Nighthawks mull future conference

Published

on

When the Indoor Football League talked about its future in a recent news release, the Wichita Falls Nighthawks were omitted from a list of teams.
The Nighthawks are considering ending their association with the IFL.
Nighthawks owner Drew Carnes has publicly announced he had applied for membership in the Champions Indoor Football League.
The CIF would provide a much more viable option for the Nighthawks, especially from a geographical perspective. Four of the teams are based in Texas: Amarillo, Allen, Mesquite and Belton.
Another hurdle is the Nighthawks don’t have a lease agreement with Kay Yeager Coliseum for next season.
“I’ve got to have a place to play,” Carnes told Jonathan Hull with the Times Record of Wichita Falls. “I need a lease agreement from Spectra (the entertainment management company Wichita Falls contracts to oversee the Multi-Purpose Event Center).
“I’ve been waiting for that lease and we’ve discussed a deal in principle. I’m just waiting on something in writing I can sign,” Carnes said.
Still, Carnes has every intention to keep the team in Wichita Falls, and Spectra management hopes to keep the Nighthawks from leaving. Read more in the Aug. 9 Bowie News.
