Commissioners cap sheriff’s reserves at 10; approve jail medical care contract

The Montague County Sheriff’s Office will operate with a maximum of 10 reserve deputies as the commissioner’s court set the limit at its Monday meeting.
Commissioners met with Roy Darden absent from the panel as he was out of town.
Chris Hughes, chief deputy with the sheriff’s office, made the request for the reserve limitation. He explained the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement reports the number of reserves is set by the commissioners, but Sheriff Marshall Thomas said they have been unable to find any documentation on the reserve limits. Thomas would like the court to cap it at 10 officers.
These reserve officers are not paid unless they fill in on a shift.
