Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade this Saturday
The Christmas season comes to Bowie this Saturday with the 26th annual Fantasy of Lights Christmas Festival.
On Dec. 2 Main Street Bowie presents a full day of holiday activities to open the season.
Santa’s House will be from 10 a.m. to noon at 219 N. Smythe Street at Higher Purpose Dance Studio. Bring the youngsters out for a free photograph with Santa Claus.
After visiting the “Big Guy” the family can go to Elf’N Magic from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Bowie Community Room.
Presented by the First United Methodist Church children can enjoy hot chocolate, decorate cookies, make a bag of magical reindeer feed and create a craft.
Pre-parade activities begin at 5:30 p.m. on the corner of Walnut and Smythe Street at the Christmas Tree. Enjoy concessions and music from Casting Out, a contemporary Christian rock band followed by a local choir.
Just before the parade, at 6:45 p.m., will be the annual tree lighting at the community Christmas tree in front of the Bowie News office at the intersection of Tarrant and Smythe.
The 26th Annual Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday night following the tree lighting.

The regular meeting of the Bowie City Council for July 22 has been cancelled. City Manager Bert Cunningham and Mayor Gaylynn Burris will be attending the Texas Public Power Association conference.
City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
