Rabbits dunk all over Tigers; taking second district win

It was a blowout win for the Bowie Jackrabbits on Tuesday as they put on a show for the home crowd and picked up their second district win against Jacksboro.

Bowie jumped on Jacksboro early and did not let up as they won easily 85-29. The first quarter set the tone as the Jackrabbits full court trapping defense created many opportunities for points in transition.

Bowie was giving that extra effort that led to them taking a 29-6 first quarter lead. As the entire bench filtered into the game, the intensity was kept up for about as much as it could be with the game out of reach so fast. The halftime score of 43-11 left little hope of a comeback from Jacksboro.

Junior’s Justin Franklin and Daniel Mosley hooked up for multiple ally-oops as well as several under the basket dunks from Mosley kept the atmosphere about as fun and as exciting as a blowout can be.

There were moments from the Jackrabbits where a lack in focus and intensity showed up, but coach Doug Boxell did all he could to try to keep that up.

Montague County All-Stars host Fall Games

For the second year, Montague County All-Stars hosted its annual Fall Games at Saint Jo High School Oct. 21.

Representatives from nearly every county elementary and high school took part in the day-long event. Students with assorted disabilities learned how to play basketball in the morning and volleyball in the afternoon.

Helping teach the finer points of both games were players and coaches from all the area high schools. Individual skills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting were taught in one of the school’s gyms before athletes were broken up into teams and played timed games in the other gym.

Some of the younger athletes had issues with the ball dribbling and got hit in the nose. Eventually they all got the hang of it, one even getting a basket.

Lady Indians get past Olney, 3-0

Nocona’s volleyball team had a tough first set against visiting Olney Oct. 16 but then turned things around in the final two games and cruised to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-14) win.

The Lady Indians are now 4-2 in district with one match to go in the regular season Oct. 23 in Petrolia.

Kasi Castro opened the match with a Nocona ace. Paige Davis later followed with a kill to break serve and a single point for a 3-1 lead.

Kills by Sy Parker and Raylea Bowles helped keep Olney down. Leah Meekins’ single point put Nocona up 6-3. Castro’s five-point streak extended the lead to 13-7 with kills from Presley Weber and Parker keeping the drive alive.

Forestburg closes regular season with 3-0 victory

To close out the District 10-A season, Forestburg’s volleyball team traveled to Bellevue and posted a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) over the host Lady Eagles.

Forestburg tied for first place with Saint Jo and broke the deadlock Oct. 26 (see story, same section).

Brooklyn Shook’s ace put Bellevue up 1-0 in game one. Forestburg’s Lacie Shotwell’s three-point run later put the visitors up 5-2, Brenna Brailes extended the Lady ‘Horn lead to 7-3.

Single points by Landry Fluitt and Brylie Hager cut the lead to 7-8. Forestburg’s Addy Conway rolled off five straight points to extend the lead to 14-7. Mattie Broussard of Bellevue later cut the deficit to 11-14 with a three-point string. points from Madi Wadsworth and Presley Brown put Forestburg up 18-12.
